The question is often asked: “Why should I buy travel insurance? My card already has it built in.” While that is true, and many times this is adequate, we’ve become solid proponents of buying insurance for our trips. Here’s why:
Life Happens
You hate to think and plan for bad events, but things can be going just fine and suddenly life throws you a curve-ball. An unexpected illness for you or a loved one, a sudden change in a job situation or a simple unexpected bump can alter your travel plans quickly.
Illness while Traveling
I pretty much eat anything, and I love trying street food wherever I find it, but sometimes it doesn’t agree with me. I’ve gotten a stomach virus while on the road and knowing I had coverage was the difference between waiting it out and getting some needed attention.
Weather
If you live on the east coast of the US, you know what fall means: hurricane season. But there are chances for travel to be interrupted by weather anywhere you are or will travel. Having the peace-of-mind to know that your costs for delay or cancellation are covered really helps.
For these reasons, and the fact that we are not as young and spry as we used to be, we always purchase trip insurance to cover life’s unexpected detours. There are plans for every budget and coverage level, so you can always find one that suits your needs.
